AIMS & OBJECTIVES


This course focuses on assisting students to develop effective language strategies so that they can perform at a high standard in international language tests and improve the effectiveness of their communication in English more generally. To achieve these objectives, the course emphasises the core competencies that are essential to the development of language skills (particularly those relevant to speaking and writing) and explores a range of different learning strategies and approaches to language study and testing in detail.

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

Apply English reading and listening skills effectively in international language tests and their academic studies.

Convey and justify ideas coherently, logically, and persuasively in international English language tests and their academic studies.

Employ English effectively for a variety of given subjects and situations with an awareness of appropriate written and spoken register in different contexts.

Participate and interact in social conversation and in semi-formal discussions based on standardised language test formats and applicable in daily life.
